Description

The Head of Ocean Freight Pricing and Procurement takes responsibility for the IFB Group’s freight pricing management and carrier procurement. You are driving the company’s overall profitable sea freight growth, efficiency, and excellence by developing and executing strategic and tactical procurement and pricing, allocation management and carrier negotiations.

The position leads a team of three direct reports and works extensively with over 10 IFB country offices throughout Asia and Europe, as well as agents. You report directly to the CEO Asia who is based in Hong Kong as well.

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and execute business strategies for effective procurement and pricing processes for IFB, and aligning them with corporate, organizational goals.

  • Define and implement carrier strategy for IFB group and regularly monitor/ review the performance with shipping lines to ensure our commitment meets

  • Support company’s P&L growth, financial health, profitability, and operational efficiency

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Pricing & Procurement Management:

  • Negotiate and coordinate short- and long-term sea freight buying rates and space agreements with shipping lines and sea freight providers for the IFB Group

  • Engage and maintain close relationships with shipping line’s trade management,

  • Provide competitive buying rates to IFB offices, business stakeholders and partners

  • Allocation management: determine volume requirement and allocate space in alignment with country operations to meet the strategic procurement goals

  • Support IFB offices with optimal carrier selections, schedules and shipping solutions

  • Provide pricing and solutions for regional rate requests and freight tenders

Collaboration & Market

  • Manage the procurement team and coordinate effectively with each IFB Office

  • Align and collaborate with IFB country organizations (sales and operations) and provide tactical-operational support for carrier rate and space management topics

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.

  • Monitor market trends, forecast the requirements for different market scenarios and adjust procurement and pricing strategies accordingly.

  • Analyze market conditions and trends, as well as competitor pricing behavior to adjust IFB pricing and procurement strategies

  • Conduct yield-, volume- and carrier analysis as basis for future business plans

  • Support agent network team in expanding and growing relationship with new partners

  • Provide support for IFB offices for best practices in ocean shipping and pricing

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the freight forwarding and/or shipping line industry

  • Relevant post graduate degree

  • Extensive experience sea freight procurement and pricing with access to a network with carriers and freight providers

  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of the sea freight industry and market dynamics.

  • Strong operations management understanding, Cargowise knowledge is a plus.

  • Excellent communication skills with high proficiency in English
