Limited Insurance Cover for Certain Areas

Due to the current geopolitical situation, insurance cover is no longer available for certain countries and maritime areas. This applies, amongst other things, to war risks.

What’s changing?

The following information relates to shipments handled via our German branches in Hamburg, Bremen and Stuttgart. Due to the current and worsening situation in several regions worldwide, we are no longer able to provide insurance cover for the following risks in certain countries and maritime areas:

  • War

  • Strike

  • Civil unrest

  • Confiscation

This exclusion applies to both our third-party liability insurance and our cargo insurance.

Please consider this when planning your shipments to or through these regions.

Region 1: Middle East

Countries: Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Yemen, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The exclusion applies to coastal waters up to 12 nautical miles off the respective coast.

Maritime regions:

  • Gulf of Aden

  • Gulf of Oman

  • Indian Ocean

  • Persian Gulf (Arabian Gulf)

  • Southern Red Sea

Precise boundaries of the maritime zones

The excluded waters are defined by the following boundaries:

  • North-west: the Red Sea, south of latitude 18° N

  • North-east: the Pakistani coast at 25°19'15" N, 65° E

  • East: a line passing through the high seas points 10°48' N/65° E → 10°48' N/60°15' E → 6°45' S/48°45' E

  • South-west: the Somali border at 1°40' S, 41°34' E to the high seas point

Region 2: Belarus, Russia and Ukraine

Insurance cover is also no longer provided for these countries in respect of risks arising from war, strikes, civil unrest and confiscation.

The following maritime areas are also excluded:

  • Black Sea

  • Sea of Azov
